FORT MILL, SC, Oct. 27, 2015 – Area businesses and golfers turned out in numbers for the Fort Mill Care Center’s inaugural “Legacy of Caring” benefit golf tournament on Oct. 12 at the Springfield Golf Club, helping to raise nearly $40,000 for the nonprofit to help fund construction of a new food storage warehouse. Diana Bernard, Fort Mill Care Center president, said, “The community response to our appeal for funds to construct a new storage warehouse has been strong and we’re very grateful. Our volunteers are planning additional fundraisers, including a holiday bow sale, to help us reach our ‘Legacy of Caring’ goal. Please visit our website and Facebook page to learn more about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.”
Donations to the “Legacy of Caring” campaign may be made online via the Center’s website (https://www.fortmillcarecenter.org), by mail (PO Box 1401 Fort Mill, SC 29716) or by dropping them off at the Center’s office at 2760 Old Nation Road.
The center recently moved its office and pantry from 818 Tom Hall St. to a newly renovated building at 2760 Old Nation Road and re-opened to serve its clients on August 31. The new location will allow the center to add more storage space for its food pantry in order to accommodate the generous donations of food, produce and other necessities received from Fort Mill area individuals and businesses throughout the year. In recent years, the Center has had to turn away donations because of inadequate storage space.
Last year, the Fort Mill Care Center offered short-term emergency assistance to clients by providing food, help with utility bill payments, emergency dental care, medical prescriptions and holiday meals and gifts for children and seniors. In all, more than 99,000 pounds of food were distributed and a total of $233,000 was given to assist 3,539 families.
