FORT MILL, SC, August 12, 2015 – The Fort Mill Care Center (FMCC) today announced the move of its offices and pantry from 818 Tom Hall St. to a newly renovated building at 2760 Old Nation Road. The current location will close on Friday, Aug. 14 at noon and the Care Center will begin serving clients from its new building at 9 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 31.
An open house and ribbon cutting ceremony will be held Aug. 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. Expected attendees include Fort Mill Mayor Danny Funderburk and other community leaders and Care Center volunteers and guests.
The move to the newly renovated building was made possible by funds from the nonprofit’s first-ever capital campaign along with generous in-kind donations of labor and materials from Roger Hendrick, president of Charlotte-based Hendrick Construction Company, general contractor for the building renovation. Hendrick is a long-time supporter of the Care Center who has been instrumental in securing a permanent location for the nonprofit. Two Men and A Truck of Fort Mill, another local FMCC supporter, is donating its moving services to assist with the relocation to the new building.
In addition to financing the purchase and renovation of the new facility at 2760 Old Nation Road, funds from the capital campaign now underway will be used to construct a new 1,500-square-foot temperature controlled storage building on the new site to house donated food and supplies. A total of $150,000 has been raised to date toward the $400,000 campaign goal.
“The opening of our new location on Old Nation Road on August 31 will be a red-letter day for the Fort Mill Care Center,” said Diana Bernard, FMCC president. “The new facility will allow us to add more storage space for our food pantry and accommodate the generous donations of food and produce that we receive from individuals and businesses in Fort Mill throughout the year. In recent years, we’ve had to turn away donations in our current location because of inadequate storage space.”
“We’ll be adding refrigerators and freezers at the new location so we can begin providing fresh foods to clients again, including milk, eggs, meat, cheese, fruits and vegetables. The expanded space will also enable us to resume our holiday meals and Santa’s Helper programs for deserving families in the community each year.”
The Fort Mill Care Center is continuing its appeal to residents of the Fort Mill and Tega Cay area for contributions to its “Legacy of Caring” campaign. Campaign volunteers are still seeking corporate donations and continue to contact companies and businesses in the community to solicit their help in achieving the $400,000 goal. Donations can be made online via the Center’s website (https://www.fortmillcarecenter.org), by mail (PO Box 1401 Fort Mill, SC 29716) or by dropping them off at the Center’s offices.
A golf tournament will be held October 12 at Springfield Golf Club as a fundraiser for the campaign. Visit the website for details on sponsorships and player registration.
Last year, the Fort Mill Care Center offered short-term emergency assistance to clients by providing food, help with utility bill payments, emergency dental care, medical prescriptions and holiday gifts for children and seniors. In all, more than 99,000 pounds of food were distributed and a total of $233,000 was given to assist 3,539 families.
